Black History

Hey, David Mullings here CEO of Father Figure Children & Family Services and I just wanted to share a little something with you.

So another year of Black History Month came around in October 2015 and I had my usual mixed feelings about this celebration which happens at the same time every year, giving me the same feelings!
I say mixed because on one hand I have such contempt for this celebration as I don't feel that the history of people with colour should be separated and celebrated in isolation after all some of these achievements have significantly changed the world.
However I also recognise that the history of people with colour is often hidden or smudged and as such black history month is a great opportunity for people to be reminded and enlightened.

With all the above in mind and another October which had arrived but with seemingly not much planning on the part of my sons School to celebrate, I decided to create something which would have an impact on the staff as well as the children. So together with my boys we created a visual adaptation to a not so very well known poem, A World Without Black People.

Please have a watch, and we hope you enjoy it!

Definition of A Father Figure

A father figure is usually an older man, often one in a position of power or influence, who arouses emotions usually felt for a person's father, and with whom a person identifies.

Father figure is seeking to combine honest messages and social media to reach out to men with positive advice. We will host events and work in partnership with individuals, groups and organisations to promote positive fathering.
