New Father

  • The excitement is dying away – but I want to be a great dad (all these dreams and ideas of what I want to be like / should be like)
  • I’m knackered
  • There is no sex, all she’s interested in is the baby
  • At 3 months post birth I’m the most unhappy I’ve ever been
  • We used to go out
  • We used to have friends – all my mates are going out –
  • I need to find some new ones? / I hate that all our friends are the ones with babies now
  • I’m feeling left out / jealous
  • My boss doesn’t understand, they just want more out of me and keep putting pressure on
  • I don’t know what to ‘do’ with it
  • I want to be different to my father (he was….. never there, violent, abusive, etc.)
  • I don’t feel as bonded as mum…. He/she doesn’t even smile at me
  • How do I play with them?  They can’t watch the footie or even play stuff yet
  • My partners crying the whole time.  I keep telling her  I can’t do anymore…
  • The house is a tip, my tea is never cooked anymore
  • And her mother’s all over us – I thought we dealt with her when we got married / moved in together
  • The health visitor ignores me, always asking where my partner is and waiting to talk to her
  • We’ve got a great car seat though – it’s the one that clicks in and has 75 multifunctions
  • In fact we need to think about a new car now…..
  • Man we are skint since she gave up work though
  • Me and my partner are struggling – I’m thinking of leaving…  She says we need some help
  • What benefits can I get?
  • What leave am I entitled to?    How should my employers help me?
We need her to go back to work, but she wants another one / wants to stay at home.

Definition of A Father Figure

A father figure is usually an older man, often one in a position of power or influence, who arouses emotions usually felt for a person's father, and with whom a person identifies.

Father figure is seeking to combine honest messages and social media to reach out to men with positive advice. We will host events and work in partnership with individuals, groups and organisations to promote positive fathering.

Father Figure is aware of the impact that a positive father figures can have on the lives of children.
